Palheiro Village

Well, let’s start with the positive…the location, cleanliness, ocean view etc were just perfect. Was a little disapointed that some of the basics were missing like salt and pepper, laundry detergent, cooking oil… but the thing that became annoying is that there’s a church just about 300m down that had a mass every single evening, on the speaker for 2 hours followed by a live band…until at least midnight..,we stayed there 4 nights and couldn t fall asleep until past midnight every night…the church is Igreja De Nossa Senhora Das Neves…I don’t know, maybe that was a festival or something but I would check before re-booking…but than that I would book again

I’d give 4.5* if I could due to minor cons, but they are quite insignificant cause the overall impression was fantastic. Luxury private property (from Blandy’s family) providing everything one might need for a luxurious stay. We’ve stayed in building 6, apt 30, so we were the closest to both main road with busses as the pool. Beautiful classy 2-bedroom apartment with everything one might need. I enjoyed waking up and having breakfast on the terrace enjoying the sea view. Very nice gesture of welcome bottle of Madeira and honey cake. The minors is that they could leave the essentials from previous guests like salt, pepper, sugar, olive oil, coffee, tea. There is literally nothing except for kitchenware, so you’ll have to buy everything. It can also be a bit noisy from the main road, especially if you prefer sleeping with an open window. And you’ll by all means need a car. Calling Bolt or taxi here can be a challenge- waiting time up to 40min. It’s easier to get from the city back. Cost 15-18€ and 15-20min. There is a bus though.

We lived in an apartment which was very, very nice on the inside. Two great bathrooms, two bedrooms with good beds (probably on the harder side but I liked them like that), air condition, and incredible views from our two balconies over Funchal. We would recommend living higher up on the hill but close to the pool area. We lived the furthest down which meant some noise from the roads when we were out on the balconies. The pool area was always calm and a great place to relax and have a bath, with showers and changing rooms close by. The breakfast in the adjascent Casa Velha do Palheiro was great too.
